Based on the beloved 1988 MGM rom-com, Mystic Pizza is a new musical about three working-class girls who navigate the complexities of life, love and family in a small-town pizza joint in our very own Mystic, CT. The infectious score features megahits of the 80s and 90s, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “The Power of Love,” “True Colors,” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”

Cory Candelet (Man 2) is so incredibly excited to be returning to the Ivoryton stage! Will Clark* (Bill Montijo) is thrilled to be returning to Ivoryton Playhouse, having previously appeared in I Hate Musicals: The MusicalThe Fantasticks, Cabaret and On Golden Pond. Originally hailing from South Eastern Connecticut, Will is a New York based film and theater actor. Will is a Resident Artist  with The CRY HAVOC Company, a new play development company based in Manhattan. With CRY HAVOC, Will has taken part in the development of over 150 new plays, musicals, and screen plays, and has has performed in dozens of CRY HAVOC’s readings and productions, including his performance in Sabbatical for the Lincoln Center Originals series. Other recent stage credits include Three Sisters (Gowanus Arts), realer than that (CRY HAVOC), Wish You Were Here, My Love (Planet Connections Festival), Ectospasms (New York Fringe), The Most Interesting Man in Dave’s Mind (Samuel French OOB Festival), AVoid2Remembr (Interrobang Festival), and a residency with the FSGA Commedia Company.

Olivia Fenton (Woman 1) is thrilled to be performing at Ivoryton Playhouse for the first time!  Favorite credits include Leanne in The Pin-Up Girls (Playhouse on Park), Anne in A Little Night Music (Monomoy Theatre), Sweeney Todd (Connecticut Repertory Theatre), Hunchback of Notre Dame (The Rev), Goodspeed Festival of New Musicals. Johanna Milani (Woman 4) is thrilled to be making her Ivoryton Playhouse debut this summer in Mystic Pizza! Johanna has her BA in theatre from Ashland University (Ashland, OH) and MAT in Education from CCSU (New Britain, CT). She has performed with countless community theatres throughout CT, where some of her credits include: Falsettos (Trina), Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins), Beauty and the Beast (Belle), Into the Woods (Baker’s Wife), Spamalot (Lady of the Lake), Young Frankenstein (Inga), The Addams Family (Morticia), Shrek (Fiona), and Pirates of Penzance (Mabel). She has also been a principal performer on the North Pole Express for over ten years. Johanna is a SAHM and the owner of Songbird Creative Designs. William Pazdziora* (Man 4) is thrilled to be making his Ivoryton debut! World Tour: Shrek the Musical (Wolf/ Thelonious/ Farquaad u/s). Josh Powell* (Man 1) is thrilled to return to Ivoryton, having previously appeared in My WayLove QuestBurt & Me, and On Golden Pond. He’s performed throughout CT, including with Goodspeed (City of Angels), Connecticut Lyric Opera (The Merry Widow), and Seven Angels, where he recently featured in Grumpy Old Men. He returns to Ivoryton fresh from leading A Little Night Music (Fredrik) at Brooklyn’s Mark O’Donnell Theater. Last season, he appeared in the World Premiere of The Virtuous Life of Joseph Andrews with Penguin Rep, where he also starred in Syncopation and Art. Josh has headlined with numerous opera companies, including El Paso Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and Light Opera Oklahoma. Josh’s New York credits include Assassins (Booth), The Cradle Will Rock (Larry Foreman), and various new works. He’s also appeared with Merry-Go-Round (9 to 5), Pittsburgh Public (The Fantasticks), and 42nd Street Moon (The Golden Apple). Teachers can purchase tickets for the student rate of $25 with their school ID.   Order tickets via phone or in person.  No online sales and not applicable to prior sales. Tickets will be held at the box office, not emailed or mailed.  Patrons purchasing over the phone will need to show their Educators ID when picking up the tickets.

The pre-show event under the tent will feature the ability to purchase beverages at the bar.

Ivoryton Playhouse is thrilled to announce the upcoming production of “Mystic Pizza: The Musical,” an exciting new addition to its 2024 season lineup and the first-ever production of this new musical in Connecticut! This highly anticipated musical adaptation of the beloved 1988 film will grace the historic stage until July 28th, promising an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.

Performance Schedule:

Mystic Pizza brings to life the heartwarming coming-of-age story of three young women navigating love, friendship, and life in the charming coastal town of Mystic, Connecticut. With a book by Sandy Rustin and music and lyrics by some of the greatest pop and rock stars of the ‘80s and ‘90s, Mystic Pizza captures the spirit of the original film while adding a fresh and vibrant twist. Audiences can expect to be swept away by catchy tunes, dynamic choreography, and an endearing narrative that celebrates the essence of small-town life and the bonds that hold us together.

Under the expert direction of celebrated director and choreographer Brian Feehan, the production boasts a stellar cast featuring Broadway veterans and rising stars. Broadway’s Leenya Rideout* (War Horse, Cabaret revival, Company) plays Leona Silva, the owner of Mystic Pizza. Ariella Kvashny* plays the iconic Daisy Arujo, the role that launched the career of Julia Roberts in the original film. Joining her are rising stars Alyssa Giannetti* playing Jo Barboza, and Carina Hernandez, playing Kat Arujo. Will Clark* returns to the Playhouse as Bill Montijo, with Isaac Kueber as Charles Gordon Windsor Jr. and Michael Ferraro* as Tim Travers. Rounding out the female ensemble are Taylor Krebuszewski*, Olivia Fenton, Liv Kurtz, and Johanna Regan Milani. The male ensemble includes Ivoryton favorites Josh Powell* and Cory Candelet, with Will Pazdziora*, Alex Polzun, and Andrew Johnson. Laura Lynne Gonzalez* is the Stage Manager.

The creative team includes many Ivoryton regulars: David Madore will be the Music Director, with scenic design by Cully Long, Lighting by Marcus Abbott, Costumes by Liz Saylor, Props Design by Melissa Titus, and Sound Design by Shyloh-Symone Bailey.

So, what’s the special sauce in Mystic Pizza? It’s got to be the myriad of recognizable favorites from the ‘80s and ‘90s, including ‘Addicted to Love’, ‘Take My Breath Away’, ‘Into the Mystic’, ‘The Power of Love’, ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’, ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’, and many more!

Ivoryton Playhouse is proud to produce this story rooted in New England’s culture and heritage. Several events are being planned with the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce, including Mystic Day at Ivoryton Playhouse on Wednesday, July 10th. The title of the film (and the musical) was inspired by a pizza shop in Mystic, Connecticut. Screenwriter Amy Holden Jones was summering in the area and chose Mystic Pizza as the focus of her story about the lives of three young waitresses.
