REOPENING THE IVORYTON PLAYHOUSE:  A PLAN WITH SCIENCE-BASED SAFETY MEASURES
May 2021

After an on-site consultation with Sten Vermund, MD, PhD, Dean, Yale School of Public Health, the Ivoryton Playhouse will take the following steps to ensure the safety and health of our audience, staff and volunteers assuming capacity will be reduced from 270 to 92 (56 in orchestra and 36 in balcony):

Click this link to see our 2021 Social Distanced Seating Plan.

Implement a “Statement of COVID citizenship”:  by purchasing a ticket you agree to adhere to Playhouse procedures to wear masks, practice social distancing and accept risk. There will be signage in the theatre to remind people to maximize adherence to guidelines.

No printed Playbills – PDF file will be available in advance or QR code download at the theatre.

Masks must be worn by patrons at all times.

Sanitation supplies including hand sanitizer and wipes will be readily available.  Easy to read and understand signage will direct patrons to supplies.

We are upgrading our HVAC system to include 40% outdoor air (OA).   In addition, four REME HALO in-duct air purifiers have been installed.  These units are the next generation of indoor air quality (IAQ) technology capable of purifying every cubic inch of air that our air conditioning system reaches.  Invented to recreate nature’s process of purifying the air, these units are effective in reducing all three categories of indoor air pollutants: particulates, microbial and gases.

As required by the Actors’ Equity Association, we have hired a COVID-19 Compliance Officer to co-ordinate our health and safety efforts.  This person will be on site at the theatre before, during and after all performances.  Our COVID-19 Compliance Officer is Steve Phelan and he can be contacted at steve@ivorytonplayhouse.org.

Cast, crew, staff and volunteers will be monitored for illness including temperatures taken before each performance.  Volunteers and staff to wear masks and gloves at all times.

Pre-performance:

** All five exterior doors open 2 hours before performance to allow for maximum air flow

**  Box Office operation – maximize ticket delivery to patrons before show to eliminate picking up tickets at the box office window.  If ticket pick up is necessary, an outdoor pick up area will be created. Tickets will not be collected by ushers at entrance doors

** Patron flow to include three entrances into the building. People standing and gathering in groups will be discouraged.  Social distancing markings will be in place at entrances

**  Social distancing markings will be in place for lines to bathrooms. Exhaust fans in both bathrooms will be on at all times.

During performance:

** It is mandatory for patrons wear masks at all times when in the building

** At least for the first few productions, there will be no intermission.  Shows will run between 75-90 minutes.  No concessions will be sold

After-performance:

** All five exterior doors open after performance.  Patron flow will include five exits out of the building
