Why is this theatre so important?
If you listen hard enough, you will hear the whispers of the past echoing off the walls of this old building. You will hear the voices of countless actors, directors and musicians who have been part of this drama for over 70 years. The Ivoryton Playhouse, one of the nation’s oldest continually running summer stock theatres, has been home to many of the great names of the American stage that include among others Groucho Marx, Katharine Hepburn, Marlon Brando and Tallulah Bankhead. Their voices remind us of the venerable history of this building and its legacy in our community.

This is a time of great change for the Playhouse, not only in the renovated physical structure but also in its place in our community. What was once a thriving summer stock theatre is now a year round professional theatre and cultural arts center, offering quality performances and events for the community throughout the year. This year the theatre hosted dances and children’s shows, community musicals and concerts, as well as our wildly successful professional theatre season.

Ticket sales and grants do not come close to covering the costs of maintaining this building. We are in existence today only because people like you believed in the Playhouse and supported us.

* Sponsorship for our most popular two, four-week summer musicials is $5,000 each and includes an opportunity to host a “tent event” on our patio.  “Tent events” are popular for corporate promotions, employee gatherings and client networking.
