If you listen hard enough, you will hear the whispers of the past echoing off the walls of this old building. You will hear the voices of countless actors, directors and musicians who have been part of this drama for over 80 years.  The Ivoryton Playhouse, one of the nation’s oldest continually running summer stock theatres, has been home to many of the great names of the American stage that include among others Groucho Marx, Katharine Hepburn, Marlon Brando and Tallulah Bankhead. Their voices remind us of the venerable history of this building and its legacy in our community.

This past year has been an extraordinary milestone for the Ivoryton Playhouse – our 100th year.  What was once a thriving summer stock theatre is now a year round professional theatre and cultural arts center, offering quality performances and events for the community throughout the year.

Membership funds allow us to accomplish many things:  preserve the historic building, improve our facilities so audiences can be more comfortable and purchase new technologies to make our organization more efficient.  Last year, our members helped us celebrate our 100th year while theatres all over the country were being forced to close their doors.  Did you know that ticket sales only cover the cost of the shows?  Ticket sales fund the talent; membership dues keep the building alive.  Why not help to ensure that the First Lady of Connecticut Theatre can continue to stand strong during her second century of life?
