The Ivoryton Playhouse is seeking outstanding applicants for the position of Managing Director. The first self-supporting summer theater in the U.S., the Ivoryton Playhouse is a year-round professional theater with an extraordinary past and a bright future. As the stage where Katherine Hepburn gave her first professional live theater performance and Marlon Brando gave his last, the Playhouse holds a unique place in the history of American theater.
Producing a year round season of professional theatre since 2006 under the Artistic Direction of Jacqueline Hubbard, our vision is simple: The Ivoryton Playhouse, Connecticut's historic treasure, offers an outstanding professional theater experience to everyone. The Managing Director is responsible for providing leadership in the areas of marketing, fundraising, financial and administrative management and Board communications. The Managing Director reports directly to the Executive Director and manages a full time staff of two and three part-time staff/volunteers. The ideal candidate is a management professional who has demonstrated leadership skills and expertise in marketing, fundraising, financial management and external relations.
Responsibilities
- Work with Board of Trustees Marketing Committee Chair to plan and execute the marketing campaign for the season
- Manage Public Relations activities including the creation of weekly press releases, eBlasts, press photograph shoots and appearances on radio/ TV and newspaper interviews
- Work with Board of Trustees Development Committee Chair to plan and manage the implementation of all fundraising for the season, including annual, capital and membership campaigns, corporate sponsorships, subscription sales and grants
- Supervise the administrative staff and direct administrative operations
- Serve as the liaison for Board communications
- Oversee management of the theater’s finances including budget development, monthly reporting and forecasting, and managing cash flow
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (degree in theater management or related field a plus)
- Experience in a non-profit leadership, with demonstrated experience in marketing, public relations, fundraising and grant writing
- Strong budgeting and financial management skills
- Strong track record of driving growth in sales (theater or non-theater)
- Demonstrated capacity to lead, manage, motivate and inspire a team
- Experience working with theater a plus
- Exceptional initiative, organizational and time management skills
- Superb interpersonal, writing, communication and analytical skills
- Expertise in MS Office and experience with QuickBooks a plus
- Strong work ethic, stamina and passion
