- Miss Daisy – a Southern Jewish widow. She ages from 72 to 97 over the course of the play. She is well-to-do, opinionated, obstinate, and fiercely independent. She is also a good woman with a good heart.
- Hoke – a Southern African-American gentleman hired to chauffeur Miss Daisy. He ages from 60 to 85 over the course of the play. He is proud, stubborn, conscientious, and, like Miss Daisy, has a good heart.
- Boolie – Daisy’s adult son. He ages from 40 to 65 over the course of the play. He is a Southern Jewish man who is strong-willed, patient and devoted.
